So, what\u2019s the secret to eliminating the smell, and how long does it take\u00a0to dissipate? In this article, our <a href=\"https:\/\/eexterminateur.ca\/en\/services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pest management specialists<\/a> explain how to get rid of dead mouse smell.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to recognize dead mouse smell and eliminate it<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The unique odour left behind by dead mice is related to their urine, and will therefore probably remind you of ammonia. The first step is to follow your nose to find out where the dead mouse is.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Figure out where the mouse is<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To figure out where the mouse is, follow your nose and keep in mind that mice like to hide in places humans rarely go. It\u2019s not uncommon to find a <a href=\"https:\/\/eexterminateur.ca\/en\/blog\/attic-infestation-decontaminate-or-renovate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mouse infestation in the attic<\/a> or basement, for example. With that in mind, it\u2019s a good idea to start your search with rooms that you rarely or never use.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>It\u2019s also likely that the dead mouse isn\u2019t in an area that\u2019s easily visible. Consider checking the following places:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>In the walls<\/li>\r\n<li>Holes that mice might be able to get into (don\u2019t underestimate their\u2009flexibility!)<\/li>\r\n<li>Underneath the floorboards or parquet flooring<\/li>\r\n<li>Behind the insulation in the attic<\/li>\r\n<li>Near garbage or debris<\/li>\r\n<li>Near heat sources<\/li>\r\n<li>Near water sources or leaks<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Of course, the mouse may be somewhere else in the house. Again, rely on the intensity of the smell to guide your search.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Get rid of the dead mouse<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>After finding the dead mouse that\u2019s causing the smell, the next step is getting rid of it. There are three main ways to do this:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Burn it<\/li>\r\n<li>Throw it in the garbage<\/li>\r\n<li>Bury it outside<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Whichever method you choose, we strongly recommend wearing gloves and a mask and\/or using a tool to handle the dead mouse. Once you\u2019ve gotten rid of it, don\u2019t remove your gloves right away. Wash and disinfect them first, then take them off and throw them out. Make sure you pick up any and all mouse hair, remains and leavings. After deep cleaning the area, let it air out if you can.
